After over 20 years of wear and tear on your Mercedes-Benz SL or Cabriolet, your vanity mirrors may become damaged or discolored. Sun exposure can affect the color, as well as make the plastic more brittle and prone to breaking. Our aftermarket molded (not 3D printed) vanity mirrors are the perfect solution to this problem. Step 1: Look at the mirror that is attached to the sun visor and you will see two small indentations on the lower frame, on the opposite side of the hinges.
Step 2: Take a thin screwdriver and pop the old mirror off of the sun visor by snapping it off where those two indentations are located. Be careful not to insert the screwdriver too far, it may damage the inside electronics. If you pry the mirror up from one indentation, you can slide the screwdriver across the seam to the second indentation.
Step 3: Inspect the backing plate for cracks or damage. Based on customer feedback, most backing plates are deteriorated, so we include one free of charge with every mirror. On the backing plate, remove the six screws holding it in place. Set aside the screws, electronic plate and remove the backing plate.
Step 4: Replace your new backing plate, ensuring that it is fitted into the sun visor like the photo shows. The two large openings on the backing plate should be at the top of the sun visor. Set the electronic plate in place, with the lever for the lights in the correct position. Secure the assembly with the six screws.
Step 5: With your new mirror shut, slide the upper (hinged) side tabs into the slots on the backing plate. Be sure not to damage the lever for the lights in the process. Snap the three bottom tabs on the lower side into place. If you push in the bottom tabs first, you will likely break the top tabs. You can slightly open the mirror in order to snap in the bottom tabs.
Step 6: You're done! All that's left to do is replace your sun visor on the vehicle.
